From rich and indulgent to cosy and warm, we're sharing our recipe for homemade classic hot chocolate and how it tastes even better when enjoyed from a hand-crafted ceramics pottery mug made in Ireland, of course.

Charlie hand forms each piece from white earthenware clay in his studio in Cork, Ireland. He then hand paints his original designs, applies a high-gloss glaze, and twice fires each piece.  

Irish pottery, in particular, has a rich history dating back centuries. The tradition of crafting ceramics pottery in Ireland is deeply intertwined with the country's cultural heritage, creating pieces that not only serve a purpose but also tell a story. 

Classic Hot Chocolate:

Ingredients:

• 2 cups whole milk
• 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
• 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
• 1/4 cup chocolate chips (semisweet or dark)
• 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
• Whipped cream and chocolate shavings for topping (optional)

Directions:

1. In a saucepan, whisk together cocoa powder, sugar, and a splash of milk to create a smooth paste.

2. Gradually add the remaining milk while whisking to combine.

3. Heat the mixture over medium heat until it's hot but not boiling, stirring occasionally.

4. Remove from heat and add chocolate chips. Stir until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.

5. Stir in vanilla extract.

6. Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings, if desired.
