Planning a Special Seuss Day with 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas'

The holiday season is the perfect time to create lasting traditions, and what better way to celebrate than with a Seussical twist! Planning a special Seuss Day centred around the beloved classic, 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas,' can add a touch of whimsy and joy to your festivities. In this blog post, we'll guide you through the steps of organising a magical day filled with laughter, togetherness, and the timeless charm of Dr. Seuss.Whether with your friends, your kids, or your extended family, enjoying a Seuss Day is a fun way to take time out and make memories.

Of course, before hosting anything, you need to make a plan with your friends or family. Start by selecting a date that works well for the entire group. It could be a weekend or a day when there's no work/school over the Christmas holidays to ensure everyone can participate.

Prepare Grinchy Grub

No Seuss Day is complete without some Grinchy treats! Popcorn is a classic movie-watching snack, so set up a popcorn station with different seasonings and toppings, from green sprinkles to a spice mix. Serve it up on our Green Heart Small Bowl for kids and Red Heart Medium Bowl for adults for the perfect look and make it part of tradition. Every time you use the bowls, you’ll remember a day of togetherness. You can also serve Grinch-themed desserts like green cupcakes, hot chocolate, red & green salsas with chips (shown below), or cookies shaped like Seuss characters.

Read the Book Together

Before diving into the movie, gather everyone around for a heartwarming reading of 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas,' Take turns reading pages or assigning characters to different family members. This will not only build anticipation for the movie but also foster a love for reading and storytelling.

Movie Time!

The highlight of your Seuss Day is, of course, watching the iconic 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' movie. Settle in with your popcorn, dim the lights, and let the whimsical world of Whoville unfold on the screen. Encourage laughter, cheers, and maybe even a few sing-alongs during the catchy songs.

For a grown-up Seuss Day, you can add a lively game to watching. Shout or take a drink every time a certain pre decided word is spoken on-screen, like "Who," "tree," "heart," "presents," "feast," "snow," or "sing.” The frequency depends on which version you watch (we recommend 1966), but I listed the words in most used to less used order, so if you choose a drinking game choose one of the last words in that list or you may regret it.

Capture the Memories

Ensure you capture the magic of Seuss Day by taking plenty of photos and videos. Glue a strong envelope in the back of your family copy of 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' and slip the photo print in there each year to mark the tradition. When they kids are grown, looking back through the photos at each year will be a special moment all its own. These memories will become treasured keepsakes, and you can look back on them with fondness for years to come.
